Please don't try placing "Mothballs" throughout your home. Bad practice indeed. Mothballs contain either (naphthalene) or (paradichlorobenzene) as their active ingredient. Both of these substances are fumigants, and are potentially toxic to humans.Can be inhaled or absorbed through the skin.Mothballs’ Link to Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (cancer).If a pregnant woman comes in contact with the substance, it has the ability to cross the placenta in amounts high enough to cause fetal toxicity. Some symptoms of toxicity may not appear for days after ingestion or contact, and a number of deaths have been reported from intentional ingestion of naphthalene-containing mothballs. The Risk Assessment Information System indicates the lethal dose of naphthalene for adults is 5 to 15 grams compared to 2 to 3 grams in children. While not as prominent as naphthalene, paradichlorobenzene is also harmful to children and adults. The insecticide is distributed in blood, fat and breast milk. Best practice is calling a professional who knows what chemicals (pesticides) to use. Safety for you and your Family are my most important concern.
